The workshop was organized in collaboration with E3 Edusolutions WOW Maths at GHPS Punjabi Bagh on 3rdSeptember’2016 and was attended by teachers of all branches of GHPS and other private schools across Delhi.

It was a very informative and enriching experience. Around 100+ teachers attended the workshop and reported it to be very interesting and interactive. The innovative ideas and tools were introduced by the International Resource Person – Dr. Kevin Mahoney on the concept of   “learn by doing” and understanding the reason and justification of making students understand the various concept of Maths.

S. Harmeet Singh Kalka, Chairman School Education seeing to the increasing Phobia of Mathematics in children decided to upgrade and motivate teachers to use playway method to teach Mathematics as he realized that each child’s way of learning is so diverse that a standard style of teaching followed by teachers using text books doesn’t suffice.

The Workshop highlighted this gap in teaching-learning process by adopting experiential learning in everyday classroom practice using Singapore Math Pedagogy. Further emphasizing  the specification mentioned by NCERT,  the teachers were trained regarding Modeling situations using quantities, shapes and forms as the best use of Mathematics with due reasoning and proofs that can help in reducing the Maths phobia from the children’s mind.

All teachers were given skilful training activities to understand Maths concept using various problem solving techniques. Teachers were also awarded with certificates after the session.

Dr. Maninder Kaur Dean attached to Education Cell thanked Col Jasbir Singh Nirmal, Director School Education and Ms. TPK Gujral, Principal, GHPS, Punjabi Bagh for giving such a platform for organizing this workshop and look forward to such interactions in future as well. DSGMC Demands Proper Implementation of Schemes For Minorities

The President of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management committee (DSGMC) Manjit Singh G.K. leading a delegation of eminent Sikhs today met the Union Minister for State for minorities (Independent charge) Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. G.K. and the delegates discussed the problems concerning implementation of schemes of Government of India for the minorities particularly the Sikh children. DSGMC Chief Advisor Kulmohan Singh, DSGMC Chairman of Minorities Awareness Department Gurminder Singh Matharoo, its incharge Bibi Inderjeet Kaur and Member of Education Cell of DSGMC Charanjeet Singh comprised the delegation.

The delegation demanded permission for opening of Skill centres in all the Gurdwaras under the control of DSGMC. The delegation also raised questions on the facility of depositing forms online of forms under pre-matric scheme. The delegation also told the minister that after 2007-08 the family income level for below poverty line candidates was not increased due to which a large number of candidates have become ineligible.

G.K. told Naqvi that land for institutions is a big problem and incase the Government of India relaxes norms it will be great help to the beneficiaries of learn and earn program. G.K. demanded that the government should give permission to open skill development courses in Gurdwaras and already running institutions. DSGMC president also took up the issue that government portal to fill forms online can’t take load of 84 lakh students so either the portal be upgraded or manual collection of forms be allowed.

G.K. advocated that to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheme of Minimum government, Maximum governance successful there was need to make policies public centric. He suggested to raise minimum annual income bracket to Rs. 2 lakh for pre matric scheme, for post matric scheme the minimum income bracket be increased to Rs. 3 lakh and for merit-cum-means scheme the income bracket be increased to Rs. 4 lakh.

Putting question mark on Government of India’s scheme for Rs. 1000 annual scholarship for class 1 to 5, Manjit Singh G.K. said that making an affidavit cost Rs. 300-400 is cause of discouragement for the beneficiaries.

Pak land of Guru Nanak, Not Hell :Atamjit Singh

Atamjit Singh : Eminent Punjabi Playwright and Director
Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, was born in Nankana Sahib. Baba Farid, the first great poet of Punjabi language, was born in Multan. When so much in that land belongs to us, how it could be hell for me and other Punjabis like me?... Half of my creative and spiritual strength comes from that part of India which is now known as Pakistan. —Atamjit Singh

Joining issue with Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, eminent Punjabi playwright and director Atamjit Singh  said Pakistan could be hell for Parrikar or some people from Goa and Maharashtra, but for him “it is the land where his cultural and religious values are rooted deeply

Speaking to The Tribune, Atamjit Singh said: “My mother was born in Peshawar and father in Lahore. Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, was born in Nankana Sahib. Baba Farid, the first great poet of my language, was born in Multan. When so much in that land belongs to us, how it could be hell for me and other Punjabis like me?”
He said: “There would not have been great literature in the absence of legendary poetical narrative of Heer Ranjha written by Waris Shah, who was born in Jandiala Sher Khan. Half of my creative and spiritual strength comes from that part of India which is now known as Pakistan.
“Some immortal songs of my language are sung by legendry singers such as Reshma, Nusrat Fateh Ali and Ghulam Ali who belong to the Punjab of the other side.”
On Parrikar’s statement, he said: “I will not mind you battering the ISI, the military junta and the politicians of Pakistan, who are sowing the seeds of hatred for their vested interests. I will gladly join you in doing so. But please have mercy on me and don’t call the whole land of my ancestors hell.”
“I wish our leaders to be sensitive in making such statements as millions of people might silently listen to their insensitive comments but can’t digest them so easily,” he said, supporting the stand taken by Ramya, a Karnataka-based actress and former Congress MP, with regard to Pakistan.
